As part of our cosmetic dental services, Invisalign is a discreet and comfortable solution for teens and adults. This innovative system uses clear removable aligners to gradually move your teeth into the right position. Dr. Gustafson will help you enjoy a beautiful smile without anyone noticing you’re wearing aligners.
Invisalign in Charlotte, NC
Invisalign is a treatment that straightens your teeth using a series of clear, custom-made aligners. These aligners consist of smooth plastic and fit snugly over your teeth. You can take the out to eat and brush your teeth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible. They’re a popular choice for teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth without metal brackets and wires.
The process starts with special 3D computer imaging. Our Charlotte dentists will show you a step-by-step plan of how your teeth will move from where they are now to where they need to be. You’ll even get to see a preview of how your smile will look when your treatment is complete.
You’ll wear each set of aligners for about two weeks. After that, you’ll switch to a new set that keeps moving your teeth closer to the final result. This process continues until your teeth are straight. Invisalign gives you a more comfortable and less noticeable way to improve your smile.
How Does the Invisalign Process Work?
The Invisalign process begins with a consultation at our Charlotte dental office. During this appointment, Dr. Gustafson and Dr. Rankin will examine your teeth to see if Invisalign is the right choice for you. If so, we’ll take digital impressions of your teeth and use a 3D scanner to create a custom treatment plan. This allows you to see how your teeth will move throughout the process and what your smile will look like at the end of treatment.
Here’s what to expect throughout your Invisalign treatment:
- Custom Aligners: Once your treatment plan is ready, we will create your custom-made aligners. You will wear each set of aligners for about two weeks, for 20 to 22 hours a day. You should only remove them to eat, brush, and floss.
- Switch Aligners: Every few weeks, you will switch to a new set of aligners. Each new set will move your teeth a little bit closer to their final position.
- Regular Check-Ups: You’ll visit our office every 6 to 8 weeks so we can check your progress and make sure your teeth are moving as planned.
- Final Results: At the end of your treatment, which typically lasts between 12 to 18 months, you’ll have a beautifully straight smile. We will give you a retainer to wear for a period to keep your teeth straight. Follow all instructions and your teeth will stay in their new positions.
How Long Does Invisalign Treatment Take?
The length of your Invisalign treatment will depend on how much your teeth need to move. Most patients complete their treatment in about 12 to 18 months. However, you may begin to notice improvements in just a few weeks. Wearing your aligners for the recommended 20 to 22 hours a day will help you get the best and quickest results.

Do You Qualify for Invisalign?
Invisalign is an excellent option for both teens and adults who want to improve how their crooked teeth look when they smile. It works well for treating many orthodontic issues, including:
- Crowded teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Overbite
- Underbite
- Crossbite
However, Invisalign isn’t right for everyone. Traditional braces or other treatments are a better option for more complex dental issues. The best way to see if Invisalign is the best solution for your smile is to schedule a visit with our dentists.
