Dr. Melissa Gustafson strives for excellence in patient care by attending numerous continuing education courses each year in restorative and cosmetic dentistry. Her primary ambition is to provide exceptional dental treatment for her patients in a caring, gently atmosphere. She wishes for all of her patients to have a personalized visit and for them to feel that they are truly in a safe environment, where they will receive optimal dental care.
A native Charlottean, Dr. Krista Rankin thrives on establishing a warm and friendly atmosphere for her patients. Dr. Rankin loves to provide quality dental care to each patient and enjoys the relationships that develop as a result. Although she enjoys family practice the most, she has experience in a variety of different areas in dentistry, including helping patients who struggle with snoring and sleep apnea. She has also completed rotations in both hospital and pediatric dentistry.

Flossing your teeth at least once a week may be linked to a lower risk of stroke, as reported in a study presented at the recent American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference. According to the American Academy of Periodontology.
These findings were part of the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study, one of the first large-scale investigations in the U.S. to study heart health. More than 6,000 people were surveyed via questionnaire regarding their home use of dental floss over a 25-year period. In addition, participants were asked about blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, body mass index, education, brushing habits, and dental visits.
The study found that flossing was associated with a 22% lower risk of ischemic stroke, 44% lower risk of cardioembolic stroke (blood clots traveling from the heart), and 12% lower risk of AFib. The associated lower risk was independent of regular brushing and routine dental visits or other oral hygiene behaviors.#mallardcreekfamilydentistry #americanstrokeassociation
